Jukebox Help and User's Guide
Need some help getting stuff working correctly? Want to know how it
works? Read on!
JavaScript Jukebox uses JavaScript to create a separate, independent
browser window from your web-browser, which then plays back a special
music file called a MIDI sequence. Because the Jukebox is a separate
window, loading a new page in the main browser window will not cause
it to stop playing the music. Think of it as your own personal Internet
BoomBox.
- Browser technology has changed tremendously since this was written
in 1997, and most modern browsers (Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape 7 and
Internet Explorer 5 and 6) break the JavaScript Jukebox code. To make
the Jukebox work, you are going to have to do some rewriting
of the code. You've been warned!
- Your computer must have a soundcard installed which is configured
to play MIDI files. Most multimedia computers should come equipped
to do this.
- You must be using a compatible browser! JavaScript Jukebox
works best with Netscape
Navigator version 3 or higher. Because the Jukebox was written using the latest
version of JavaScript, it may not work with older versions of Netscape
Navigator. If you are not sure which version of Netscape Navigator
you are using, click "Help" on the menubar, then choose "About Netscape."
- JavaScript Jukebox now works well with Microsoft Internet
Explorer, version 3. You will, however, need to install a plugin to
enable it to play MIDI files.
- Due to limitations inherent in America Online's web-browser, the
JavaScript Jukebox will not work for AOL users unless they
use an external browser (for more information on doing this go to
key words "winsock" or "net software" while on AOL).
- The JavaScript Jukebox runs in its own separate browser window.
This means you can take your JavaScript songs with you. Although it
may be hidden by an active window, the Jukebox is still there! It
will stay open even after you close your web-browser. To close it,
click on the "Close Jukebox" button. The Mini-Jukebox doesn't have
a close button -- to close it, just close the mini-browser window.
